Recipients Announced
The USM Women’s
Forum proudly announces its Faculty Research
Award recipients for 2003. The purpose of the
awards is to advance research that impacts the
lives of women—social, economic, political, and
health conditions—and to provide seed money for
junior faculty’s research ideas.

College Park, awarded $1,000 for research on
“Coping, Race-Related Stress, and Job
Satisfaction among African-American Female
Counselor Educators”
Dr. Annie Ruth
Leslie, Bowie State University, awarded $500
for research on “Using Culture to Reduce
HIV/AIDS Among African-American Women”
Dr. Ida Robinson-Backmon,
University of Baltimore, awarded $750 for
research on “The Status of Diversity in the
Accounting Academy: Perceptions of the
Under-represented Faculty”
Dr. Barbara
Swartz, Bowie State University, awarded $750
for research on “Determining Variables that
Support Retention of Single Mothers Attending
